Langley Trust: Designing a Supportive, Human-Centred Workplace

Coventry / Charity / 8 weeks / 10,000 sq ft

A workplace shaped with care

Langley Trust sought more than a functional refurbishment — they needed a workplace that embodied dignity, calmness, and comfort for both staff and service users. The brief called for a sensitive, wellbeing-led transformation that could strengthen day-to-day support, encourage moments of respite, and express the Trust’s deep commitment to social and environmental responsibility.

The challenge was to deliver all of this while keeping services fully operational, ensuring that every design decision respected the people who rely on the space.

Furniture that supports wellbeing

Lume Furniture responded with a people-first, sustainability-conscious furniture strategy designed to elevate wellbeing and durability in equal measure. 15% of existing desking and task seating was refurbished through deep-cleaning, reupholstery and component upgrades — extending product life and reducing embodied carbon.

Ergonomic task furniture was introduced to support healthy posture and long-term comfort, while soft seating zones were curated using calming colour palettes and recycled-content upholstery to create restorative breakout spaces. FSC-certified timber elements and durable, wipeable finishes ensured the space remained hygienic, practical, and responsibly sourced.

As Ben Avvinti, Projects Director, reflects: “Designing with care, comfort, and circularity at the heart of this project made it incredibly meaningful to deliver.”

A space that strengthens support

The resulting environment is warm, inclusive and deeply functional, offering staff and service users a place that feels both safe and uplifting. Breakout and support areas have seen increased usage, with staff reporting improved comfort, smoother day-to-day interactions, and a stronger sense of connection within the workplace.

With phased installation ensuring zero disruption to essential services, the Trust now benefits from a space that supports its mission in both spirit and practice — a workplace shaped with intention, empathy and long-lasting value.
